I recommend...

Advertising is an interesting theme even if you are not studying it and just want to spend some time finding out new interesting information. Many sources might be really useful in this purpose. If you do really pay attention on slogans in advertising you should visit http://www.thinkslogans.com/slogans/advertising-slogans/ and discover more for yourself. From my point of view, sometimes it is a hard work to create successful and memorable slogans. It also was really to notice that I am really fond of an old retro vintage advertising. Mostly I like it because of a real artistic work in this kind of advertising. I do not really like nowadays computer technology used for creating posters which does not really involve art. So I would like to recommend you an http://www.vintageadbrowser.com which helps you in finding any vintage ads easily. The third web page which is really interesting for me for finding new ad information is http://www.ibelieveinadv.com/. This is a blog where you can find advertising and commercials in English daily. Those are my 3 favorite pages which I do really enjoy, but if you need more information just use amazing Google engine and find tons on information of any kind.

Dangerous Advertising for Children

The article, which was really interesting to read and which actually, breaks the stereotypes is “Dangerous Advertising for Children” written Christine Hurt. We used to believe that scary, violent or unhealthy food advertising are dangerous for children, but the writer uncovers the new type of advertisement which is actually not so good for them. This is – loan advertising. It does not only load up children’s mind with unneeded information but also creates hundreds of questions and misunderstandings in smart kid’s head. Author explains on her daughter’s example when she asked: "When you buy a couch, why do you have to keep paying each month?” The parents usually try to explain such things to their children but they even do not know how. They do not know how to explain 8 year girl the difference of paying 1000$ once or 90$ each month and the danger of bankruptcy. The author tried to explain and examine what could child learn from such and ads and here is her words: (1) financing ordinary consumer purchases is customary for average buyers; (2) one should not wait to reward oneself with fun purchases when you could take that product home today and pay later; (3) many people (portrayed by attractive actors in nice clothes in nice living rooms) get into debt that they cannot repay, this is OK and there is an easy way out; and (4) having bad credit is not an obstacle that one should worry about or try to avoid.
This is a really useful article for people who concerned about influence of advertising on the young generation minds.

Types of Ad Appeals

I would like to discuss a really useful article which I have founded on the articleswave.com web-site which is really good for educational articles. This article does really good cover a really important part of my theme. The article called: “Different Types of Advertising Appeals”. Reading this article you can learn about 19 the most important Advertising Appeal. The author tells us the most important thing about his subject:  “Advertising uses appeals as a way of persuading people to buy certain products. Advertising appeals are designed in a way so as to create a positive image of the individuals who use certain products.” Indeed the aim of an ad-team is to create the best image for the consumers and promote their product as much as they can. They make us to believe that it was created especially for us, and it will help us a lot and we have to buy it. And I have to agree, that in the many ways it does really work!

Great example of Fear Appeal

Summer time and a little bit of Coke

The summer comes closer and everyday walking under a hot sun people start to pay more attention to sparkly, ice-cold drinks sold everywhere. Everyone prefers different types of drinks which are whole plenty on the market. Most of the beverages are sold during late spring and summer seasons when during parties or trips in hot weather people have to buy and consume water involuntary to get more energy and fluid. Beverage market has a long history and is considered as one of the most profitable. The greatest product of it is a legendary Coca-Cola which was created in 1886 by John Pemberton in Atlanta, Virginia. Originally Coke was created as medicine at the drug-store, and then transformed to the “French Non-Alcoholic Coca Wine”. Then it was bought by a great businessman Asa Griggs Candler who due to his marketing and business skills promoted Coke to its level as we can see it now. Throughout of its history Coke Company used many ways of advertising to attract as many consumers as possible. It started with the first drawing ads in Virginia in 1894.

During the 20th century vintage advertisings were really popular and nowadays many people try to reproduce or collect them. The unique shape of a Coca-Cola bottle appeared in most of the ads with its sparkly content. Artists and designers did and do a great job of creating such an ads, so people seeing they had to go and buy the product. In this case we can see happy, smiling people holding or drinking from a bottle of a really colorful and mouthwatering beverage. Coke advertisements with its persuading slogans such as “Drink Coca-Cola”, “There’s nothing like a Coke” or “Meet me near Soda fountain” do really make person to buy Coke. But why Coke? Some people say that the component of cocaine used in the beginning of Coca-Cola creation still added to nowadays beverage, some say that it just became such a symbol in history and society that we just can’t really choose something else. Coke Company did a good job investing money to Olympic Games, Social funds and Sport Activities. It created such an important social appeal which now also widely used in its advertising and making us to choose Coke over the Pepsi or Kofola.

Coca-Cola Commercial 2011

From my point of view - just a great commercial from Coke for the Super-Bowl series of 2011. Great choice of theme and soundtrack.

Doritos - appeal to humor and "coolness"

An outstanding example of appeal to humor and eXtreme we can find in numerous commercials of an American brand of chips "Doritos". Company is one of the most popular and well selling at the food market. In some cases it is a part of having fun party or football time with a bowl of "Doritos" and nacho cheese. I have to agree that these chips do really taste delicious, which makes them one of the most expensive goods in a snack section of a local supermarket and really popular around the world. But the big role in such success played by the smart advertising campaign. First of all these cheese and ranch flavored chips got a really bright and appealing pack without a lack of blazing colors. Logo of Doritos creates association of something impulsive and   colorful - probably the same words you can use to describe commercials you see on TV and the taste of the product.
So I would like to talk a little bit about the newest commercial of this awesome chips brand which is made with usual for them "coolness" and humor. In this commercial, which as I think is created for audience of teenagers and young adults (14-35), you can find anything you need for not serious, dynamic and considerably simple video. This commercial would certainly grab attention of middle-high because it got: appealing to coolness voicing, big wheeled Chevy El-Camino, explosions, trampoline, school-buses, destruction of property, fireworks and   of course extra large Jacked Doritos Chips which are 40% bigger and thicker that regular ones! "Doritos" team is keeping creating simple and funny advertisements which are just in time for party or some other event and which makes their company one of the leaders on the snack market.

Doritos - "The loudest taste on earth"

Advertising Around Us - Introduction

Our everyday live is always in touch with advertising. Especially if you study, work and live in a big city. You can see ads out of your window, in the street, in the public transport and at home. For the last decades advertising became inseparable part of our life. Baby watching a cartoon on the TV does not even realize where the cartoon part or commercial is. The baby hears multiple times "Freshen-up with 7-Up", and then repeats part of the phrase in front of the parents. Next day when the mother talks to her friend she tells her how smart her kid is learning so fast. Her friend memorizes the 7-Up story, even if it is memorized unconsciously, and then buys her kid 7-Up. Maybe this happens rarely but that is the main goal of advertising - to spread the information about product in any way and make people buy it. Nowadays it is the one of the most developing branches of Media and Marketing. That is why decided to dedicate this blog to history and facts about advertising.
